TextLantern
Shipped the first public version of TextLantern, a Discord translator bot.
Two separate installs. The personal user-app does not need Manage Server. On desktop, right-click a message, open Apps, and choose Translate privately. Only that user sees the translation; the original message is left as it was. /t takes a reply in the user's language, translates it to a chosen target, and shows the result to copy. TextLantern never sends the message. /language sets the default personal target.
The server install needs Manage Server. You pick a channel and two main languages. A message recognized in either language is translated into the other, posted as a channel reply or in a thread. Extra reader languages can be added, up to eight per channel, either automatic or on request, and on-request results can be delivered privately to the reader who asks. Saved language, reply, and terminology settings can be reused across channels. Mobile clients see the same replies and threads with no extra setup.
Permissions requested: View Channels, Read Message History, Send Messages, Send Messages in Threads, Embed Links, Manage Threads, Change Nickname. Not Administrator.
The text is processed by a third-party machine-translation service. There is no permanent message or translation archive, message content is not used to train models, and the bot does not scan history or auto-translate DMs. 92 translation languages. Usage is counted as the source text's Unicode characters for each target language. Cached, failed, and retried translations are not counted. Eligible Discord accounts get a one-time 300-character trial. Paid character packs are one-time purchases that do not expire; there is no subscription and no automatic overage charge.
