TranslateGemma - Open Translation Model

TranslateGemma represents Google's latest advancement in open-source machine translation, launched in January 2026 as a specialized suite of models derived from the Gemma 3 foundation architecture. This family of lightweight, decoder-only large language models (4B, 12B, and 27B parameters) delivers state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance across 55 core languages—spanning high-resource (e.g., English, Spanish, Mandarin), medium-resource, and low-resource tongues—while also being trained on nearly 500 additional language pairs to broaden research potential.
