I built myCostBase to make Canadian ACB records explainable
Canadian investors are responsible for tracking adjusted cost base in their non-registered accounts, but the number shown by a brokerage is not always the complete tax cost. A broker normally sees only the accounts held at that institution. It may not see the same ETF at another brokerage, an old transfer cost, or every distribution adjustment that changed the investment's cost base.
I built myCostBase to turn that scattered history into one dated ledger. It pools identical securities across a taxpayer's taxable accounts, converts USD trades using transaction-date Bank of Canada rates, records DRIPs and ETF return of capital, and helps reconcile the finished calculation with T5008 slips.
The product is deliberately narrow: it is an adjusted cost base and capital-gains record system, not a trading dashboard and not tax-filing software. Every result should be traceable back to the transactions and adjustments that produced it.
Canadian investors can start free with manual entry and use their own records to check the ledger before deciding whether brokerage imports and advanced reports are useful. I am continuing to improve the import, reconciliation, and year-end handoff based on real investor workflows.
